At the beginning of this year 2020
My church declared quantum leaps of greatness…
My pastor declared this is the year of I AM
However looking at my experience of 2020 so far on the surface I don’t think anyone could call it very great right now…
For the first few months I was calling on the name I AM, I AM… and heard no replies
Is anyone out there??????????
When I was in deep trouble,
I searched for the Lord.
All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven,
but my soul was not comforted.
I think of God, and I moan,
overwhelmed with longing for his help.
You don’t let me sleep.
I am too distressed even to pray!
I think of the good old days,
long since ended,
when my nights were filled with joyful songs.
I search my soul and ponder the difference now.
Has the Lord rejected me forever?
Will he never again be kind to me?
Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion?
It is astounding to me that nearly 5000 years ago, a worshipper in the temple of God shared similar thoughts.
More incredible still it was recorded and kept as part of the body that forms the Word of the Almighty GOD!
Does the unquestionable one allow Himself to be questioned?
Could it be that in my questioning and in His silent response, I find an answer?
Be still and Know that I am God…
A modern-day Psalmist, I believe it was Leeland who wrote the bridge (could have been Michael W Smith) re-released this word, prophectically by the Spirit of God in 2019 as a bridge to the incredible Psalm “Waymaker” originally written by anointed Nigerian minstrel, Sinach in 2016.
It was a preparatory word for 2020
Even when I don’t see it you are working
Even when I don’t feel it you are working
You never stop, You never stop working
The preparatory season is painful and hidden out of sight. There was nothing heard about Jesus between 12 and 30. For a period of 18 years all the Word tells us is that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature and favour with God and men and that He learnt obedience by the things He suffered.
It is in the Silence God does his best work
“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”
The Now is present continuous until Jesus returns. There have been multiple seasons of now throughout history.
Jesus the light coming in the world was a now
The first Pentecost leading to The Empowering of Apostles & ultimately the conversion of Paul was a now
The conversion of Constantine – a Roman Emperor converted 312 which eventually led to the adoption of the Nicene Creed by 380 was a now
Christianity had become the Official faith of the state; the greatest power on earth changed from the Roman Empire to the Church headquartered in Rome and it rapidly spread across Europe and the Mediterranean
Then the Devil changed strategy from persecution.
He realised if you can’t beat them join them leading to the schism between the eastern and western church, the corruption of the church for men’s purposes, and the truth of the word of God got more and more distorted and eventually shut up in monasteries
Then we entered what is history now called the Dark Ages
In October 1517 Martin Luther a German monk desperately searching the scriptures for answers discoved this passage in the Book of Romans “the just shall live by faith!”. As he began to decree it and publish it, it was a NOW and a light was rekindled. This light was called the Reformation that ultimately led to the formation of The Church of England and The creation of America and what we now call in history the Age of Enlightenment.
Then nearly four hundred years later in 1906 at Azusa Street, the modern Pentecost experience was rekindled in a movement led by the most unlikely of people, William J Seymour a blind, African American illiterate preacher. This was a now that led to the spread of the charismatic, evangelical and Pentecostal movement all over the word in particular to Africa – this was the move under which my lineage personally got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit.
We are currently breaking into another “now” season
(Part 2… To be continued)
